Things that “I am”

I am the first born from a young mom and musician dad
Surrounded by adults who like to talk,
I am a Pain au Chocolat
and a wild caper plant growing on a rock
I am a child’s size 3-leopard fur coat
Walking on les Champs-Élysées
I am from a suitcase, leaving my birthplace

I am an older sister skating on the frozen pond
Who plays hide and seek and jumps onto snow filled rooftops
I am a Beatles record and violin lessons
a banana seat bike, a Yoyo and mini pops
I am a catholic school uniform
I am a car travelling across Canada, to an unknown place

I am an English Language Learner, who learned to adapt
leg warmers, pocket jeans and Daniel Hechter sweatshirts
a pencil and paper and fashion sketches
I am from a rancher on the side of a mountain
A babysitter, a phone operator and a school bell
a university book and Holidays
I am a backpack and a Eurail pass, going to a faraway place

I am a Honda Civic, a sushi restaurant and an outdoor patio
I am a ski hill, an engagement ring
A room filled with white little lights, music and friends and family
I am Las Vegas and Palm Springs,
Little sleepers and soothers
Training wheels, hockey sticks and tutus

I am a family photograph
A speedboat on the lake, a towel on the sand.
I am a plane going to Disneyland
I am a barbecue, a plate of pasta, focaccia bread and a dining table,
I am a palmtree and a cedar tree,
growing, nurturing and giving
